Trauma Therapy in Kelowna

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You don’t need a formal diagnosis to benefit from trauma counselling.

Most people I work with are experiencing things like:

    • Anxiety or constant overthinking

    • Feeling emotionally overwhelmed or shut down

    • Difficulty in relationships

    • Patterns they can’t seem to break

    • A sense of “something isn’t right,” even if life looks okay on the outside

If your past is still affecting how you feel, think, or show up—trauma therapy can help.

  • No.

While I do offer PTSD therapy in Kelowna, many clients don’t meet full diagnostic criteria for PTSD.

    They’ve experienced:

    • Chronic stress

    • Difficult relationships

    • Emotional neglect

    • Repeated or layered experiences over time

This is often referred to as complex trauma, and it can have just as much impact.

  • This isn’t just talking about your past over and over.

In trauma counselling, we focus on:

    • Understanding your patterns

    • Regulating your nervous system

    • Processing experiences at a pace that feels safe

    • Creating actual shifts—not just insight

Sessions are conversational, but also structured and intentional.

You won’t be left trying to figure it out on your own.

  • No.

We go at a pace that works for your system.

For many people, jumping straight into the trauma can feel overwhelming or even retraumatizing. That’s not how I work.

    We build:

    • Safety

    • Regulation

    • Capacity

First—so when we do process things, it actually leads to change.

  • My work is focused on getting to the root—not just managing symptoms.

    I integrate:

    • DBT for emotional regulation

    • IFS for deeper parts work

    • Attachment-based therapy for relationship patterns

    • Nervous system-focused approaches for trauma healing

It’s direct, collaborative, and grounded in what actually works.

Clients often come to me after feeling stuck in more traditional talk therapy.

  • It depends on the person and what you’re working through.

Some clients experience noticeable shifts within a few sessions.
Others choose to go deeper over a longer period.

This isn’t about dragging therapy out—it’s about creating meaningful, lasting change.

We can talk about your goals and what timeline makes sense for you.

  • Yes.

I offer in-person trauma counselling in Kelowna, as well as virtual therapy across BC and North America.

Some clients prefer the connection of in-person sessions, while others find virtual sessions more accessible and comfortable.

    Both are effective.

  • Yes—when done properly, it absolutely can be.

Many of my clients do virtual trauma therapy in BC and across North America and still experience strong results.

The key is not the format—it’s the approach.

    We still work with:

    • Nervous system regulation

    • Emotional processing

    • Pattern awareness

    Just from your own space.

  • Yes — I am not COVERED by ICBC however, if you’ve been in a motor vehicle accident, you may be eligible for ICBC-funded trauma counselling in Kelowna.

    Common concerns after accidents include:

    • Anxiety while driving

    • Panic responses

    • Flashbacks or avoidance

We work to help your system feel safe again—so those responses don’t continue to control your day-to-day life.

  • This is more common than you’d think.

Often it’s not that therapy “doesn’t work”—it’s that the approach didn’t match what you needed.

    If you’ve:

    • Gained insight but still feel stuck

    • Talked about things but nothing changed

    • Felt like you were going in circles

That’s usually a sign that a different, more targeted approach is needed.

  • You can start by:

    • Booking a session

    • Reaching out with questions

    • Exploring whether this feels like the right fit for you

    There’s no pressure—just a place to begin.

  • Yes—this is actually one of the most common reasons people seek trauma therapy in Kelowna.

    Trauma often shows up as:

    • Anxiety

    • Overthinking

    • Emotional reactivity

    • Fear of abandonment or disconnection

By working through the underlying trauma, these patterns often begin to shift naturally.

  • Session fees are discussed upfront so there are no surprises.

I offer standard 50-minute sessions, and we can also explore longer or more intensive sessions if that’s a better fit for your goals.

If you’re unsure what would work best for you, we can talk through options and create a plan that feels realistic and supportive.

Individual sessions are $150 + GST per 50 min session.

  • In many cases, yes.

As a Registered Master Practitioner In Clinical Counselling, my services are often covered under extended health benefits plans in BC and across Canada.

Coverage varies depending on your provider, so it’s a good idea to check:

    • Whether counselling or psychotherapy is included

    • Your annual coverage amount

    • Whether a referral is required

After each session, you’ll receive a receipt that you can submit for reimbursement.

  • At this time, I provide receipts for reimbursement rather than direct billing.

Most clients are able to submit these receipts easily through their insurance provider.

  • This is something we can talk about.

Not everyone needs long-term, weekly therapy. Some clients benefit from:

    • Short-term focused work

    • Spaced-out sessions

    • Intensive-style sessions for deeper work in a shorter timeframe

The goal is to make this accessible and effective, not overwhelming.
